My First Attempt at Making a Shea Butter Mix

Shea Butter2 150x150 My First Attempt at Making a Shea Butter MixHey everybody! Ok, so I “tried” to make my own Shea Butter mix a couple of weeks ago and it was a HUGE fail in my eyes! I got the recipe from the NaturallyCurly.com website and I followed the recipe (or so I thought), but the mixture came out very hard. After I let it sit over night the next day it was watery! I did a video on it (see below) and as of today, the mixture is still sitting in the refrigerator because I can’t let it sit out without it getting watery. Not sure what I’m going to do with this now, but maybe I’ll just use it for moisturizing my skin.

So the next week I attempted to make another batch of Shea Butter mix Continue reading

Yarn Braids/Genie Locs

Yarn Braids 150x150 Yarn Braids/Genie LocsHey everybody! Now that summer is ending soon and the fall and winter months are fast approaching, I have been trying to decide on some protective hairstyles I can wear during these cold months to protect the ends of my hair. My hair is not long enough to wear two strand twists for several days, yet and for the summer I did a lot of flat twist hairstyles to keep my head cool during the hot, humid summers. I’ve been watching YouTube videos (my natural hair bible) to see what others have done in the past as protective styling.

I have some kinky twists synthetic hair that I had put in my hair back in Continue reading

Curly Hairstyle Photos

natural hair styles for black women 2011 300x291 150x150 Curly Hairstyle PhotosI am always in search of hairstyles for naturally curly hair and like to change up my hairstyle once or twice a week, depending on my mood and schedule for the week. A few weeks ago, one of my co-workers commented at the fact that I am always changing my hairstyle. I told him (yes, him!) that “variety is the spice of life!” I like to be different and love changing my hairstyles to fit my mood and the weather.

Since I’m still in the “infancy stage” of my big chop (May 12, 2011), I am always on YouTube and other natural hair blogging sites trying to find a Continue reading

Going Natural- My Personal Hair Journey- Part 3

NewsUpdate3 optimized 150x150 Going Natural My Personal Hair Journey Part 3Hey everyone! It’s been a minute since I’ve last updated my blog on my journey from relaxed to natural hair. I’ve been busy with this new job and trying to adjust to the hours they have me working (that’s another blog post) that I have been neglecting many things.

So, I’m going to do a quick update on how my transition is going, while I have the energy tonight. It’s been 16 weeks since my last relaxer (12/02/10) (yea!) and I’m still hanging tough! I haven’t applied any type of heat styling (e.g. curling iron, blow dryer, and flat iron) to my hair since about the end of December 2010 and I think my hair is thanking me for it. I do shampoo Continue reading

My Product Reviews

Product Junkie pjunk 150x150 My Product ReviewsHey everybody! Since becoming a natural hair diva, I have been experimenting with different products (can you say “product junkie?”) to see what works and doesn’t work for my hair. When I first decided to go natural and start by transitioning, I was testing out products it seemed like every week, every other week. This was mainly due to trying to deal with the two textures of hair (natural and relaxed) to try and get them to work together and not against each other. This was a huge fail!

During my transition, I started off using Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Continue reading
