Hey everybody! Ok, so I “tried” to make my own Shea Butter mix a couple of weeks ago and it was a HUGE fail in my eyes! I got the recipe from the NaturallyCurly.com website and I followed the recipe (or so I thought), but the mixture came out very hard. After I let it sit over night the next day it was watery! I did a video on it (see below) and as of today, the mixture is still sitting in the refrigerator because I can’t let it sit out without it getting watery. Not sure what I’m going to do with this now, but maybe I’ll just use it for moisturizing my skin.
So the next week I attempted to make another batch of Shea Butter mix with the Shea Butter I had left and used a different recipe I found on YouTube. This mixture turned out “perfecto!” I was very pleased with it and will do another video on this second and successful attempt very soon. So needless to say I will start making my own Shea Butter mixtures.
I went on a website called “CoastalScents.com” and purchased five pounds of Unrefined Shea Butter (ummm, yeah, lol) and some coconut oil for fragrance last week to add in my successful batch of Shea Butter mix because I just wasn’t “feeling” the smell it was giving out. It sort of made my stomach turn, so I purchased the coconut oil to kind of dismiss the “pungent” smell. After adding a few drops of this in the mixture, I went and placed another order on Coastal Scents for more fragrance oils to add to future mixtures.
Here is the video of my failed attempt at making Shea Butter. I am the type of person that if it doesn’t come out right the first time, I won’t give up and will attempt it again using a different route/method. Enjoy the video! Lol
